brazil plane crash
brazil plane crash: Brazil’s Voepass Airlines recently came into the spotlight after a tragic incident where one of its flights crashed into a residential area in Vinhedo. This unfortunate event resulted in the loss of all 61 individuals on board, which included 57 passengers and 4 crew members. In a twist of fate, Adriano Assis, a resident of Rio de Janeiro, revealed that he was supposed to be on that ill-fated flight but missed it due to a mix-up at the airport.
Assis narrowly escaped the disaster by arriving late at the airport after finishing his shift at a local hospital. He shared his experience with Brazilian news outlet TV Globo, explaining that he arrived at the check-in counter at 9:40 am but missed the two-hour flight from Cascavel to Guarulhos due to confusion at the airport.
Upon learning about the crash, Assis expressed his gratitude to the airport staff, even hugging the official who had prevented him from boarding the flight. He recounted, “I arrived at 9:40, the gate was closed, but the flight was still preparing to leave. I had been working at Toledo Regional Hospital. When I got to the airport, I waited, thinking the gate might still open since there’s usually someone at the counter, but this time there wasn’t. I stayed upstairs, had some coffee, and waited. There were no announcements or updates about the flight. When I finally went down, it was half-past ten, and there was a long queue.”
He continued, “I waited, and by 10:41, the staff told me I wouldn’t be able to board. At that moment, I argued with him, but that was it. He saved my life. I hugged him because he did his job. If he hadn’t, I might not be here today giving this interview.”
A video of Assis’ experience was shared online, with one user commenting, “This man wasn’t allowed to board the plane that crashed in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo, Brazil because he was late. He argued with the man at the boarding gate but ended up hugging him after learning about the crash. This is unbelievable.”
Following the crash, Voepass Airlines stated that their primary focus was on supporting the families of the victims and determining the cause of the accident. According to The Guardian, Emerson Massera of the Brazilian military police confirmed there were no survivors. He described the situation as extremely tragic and mentioned that the current priority is clearing the debris to facilitate the investigation and identification of the victims. The plane reportedly crashed in a residential area located 76 kilometers from the state capital, Curitiba.
